Fish 4 5k Competition Winner 2011

Well done to Sean Huggins, a great performance to top the 30 strong field and take the £5,000 cash prize. Sean could not have wished for a better draw, one peg away from where he had broken the match record just the week before. It was vertually impossible for Sean to fish the far bank on peg 32 for the first hour due to a thick layer of scum that had settled in front of him. This allowed Simon Skelton to gain a healthy lead from peg 34. Local angler Pete Bell was catching steadily from peg 42 but was having problems losing fish. Once the layer of scum had blown out of the peg Sean was able to get across to the far bank and soon started building a good weight with a string of carp to 7lb. Simon and Sean were fish for fish until the end of the match but Seans fish were a better stamp and his weight of 121-4 to Simons 116-14 was enough to win the match and take the title of Fish4 5K 2011 Champion. Pete Bell finished a creditable third with 89-7 but a string of lost fish cost him the chance of challenging for the top prize.
